Bug-ku–haiku about bugs: Ladybug

bug-ku and art by Susan Bruck

What is bug-ku?

bug-ku--Lady bug
ode (or haiku) to a ladybug

Ok, that’s pretty straightforward–a bug-ku is a haiku about bugs. This summer, I wrote several haiku about bugs I saw in my garden. And now, in the depths of winter, I’m revisiting them. Starting today–since it’s super-de-dooperedy cold here in Chicago and I want to think of something besides winter. Something like shiny little lady bugs on green leaves in my garden.

And it’s Poetry Friday!

This week, Poetry Friday is hosted by Going to Walden

Thanks for hosting, Tara–and, everyone else, be sure to check out her blog and see what Tara and other poetry-loving bloggers have to say. (You can join in, too–it’s fun!)

Just one little bug-ku this week–with a picture, though

I’ve had a really busy work week this week. Which is awesome! Just one year since I started my own business as an indexer/editor and, at least for the moment, I’m busy!

Ladybugs for luck!

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the symbolic meaning of various critters. So I did a little investigating about these little ladies.

Ladybirds (another name for ladybugs) bring joy, good fortune, and prosperity–yes to all of that!

I read the following on Spirit animal totems: In addition to bringing luck, “this insect also cautions not to try to hard or go to fast to fulfill our dreams. Let things flow at their natural pace. In the due course of time, our wishes will all come true. …This species of beetle signals you to to not be scared to live your own truth.”

And they eat aphids, too!

Here’s the bug-ku:

Ladybug, come dance
Your lacy wings slip out from
Your black-spotted dress

That’s all for this week!

I’m off to sleep now–and hopefully dream of sunshine, gardens, and lucky ladybugs.

I hope you are all warm and snug–and having sweet dreams and lots of luck with or without ladybugs.

Thanks for stopping by.
