When life gives you cucumbers–a couple cucumber limericks

Feeling cool as a cucumber

You can write poems about anything–even a cucumber. I wasn’t going to post anything this week since I’m off in Michigan visiting my parents. But they’re watching the news and I’m sitting with them, but felt like writing something. Because–it’s Poetry Friday!–and it doesn’t feel right not to write. Other people are writing, too. You can see who and what by visiting our host for this week, Life on the Deckle Edge–thanks for hosting, Robyn!

Limericks are fun

I picked (from the vine, of course) a couple limericks to share with you–limericks about the lovely, sweet cucumber.

And here they are:

Dill, Green, Cucumber Herb, Spice
I had so much dill in my garden this past summer–but this photo is from Pixabay

A Dilly of a Love Story

There once was a cucumber fine
Who sang as he hung on the vine,
“I love you dear dill
And I always will.
I’d relish you if you were mine.”

Cucumber, Little Pickle, Blooms
I had cucumbers, too–but this photo is also from Pixabay

There once was a lady named Tish
Whose pickles were sweet and delish.
She went out for a bite
Of a hot dog one night
Which she ate with the greatest relish.

I hope you relished that silliness–

Because that’s all I’ve got today other than catching up with my wonderful family, or at least part of it.  I’m so happy to spend time with my parents and brother. And I always feel like a spring chicken here in the senior residence where my parents live. At 61, I don’t always feel that way!

If you need a little more silliness–here’s a poem on how to polish stainless steel. (The hint is real, it’s just kind of silly to put it in a poem–or maybe not!)

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you have a wonderful week filled with yummy vegetables and just the right amount of silly.

Until then–xoxo

  1. Very cool that you were moved to write poetry in honor of Poetry Friday, even while having a visit! Dill and cucumber make a lovely couple 🙂
Sounds like you are thinking of spring/summer. I posted birds’ nests for Art Thursday, guess we were on similar wavelengths!

    1. Yes, I’ve been longing for spring- and sunshine. I wrote the poems this past fall and reharvested them for this post. I’m going to check out Art Thursday! Thanks

  2. Have a fun time with parents, divine/ those older than you at this time/it’s fun to be young/to be down one more rung/and be silly when writing a rhyme!

Had to write one for you Susan. Enjoy your visit, & I love (relish) your limericks! I make pickles, so they tickled me a lot!

    1. Thanks for the limerick. It made me laugh!
      There’s nothing like homemade pickles!

  3. I wasn’t sure about cucumber limericks, but you knocked these out of the ballpark! Makes me anxious to plant some cucumbers (I love finding those babies behind the fading bloom) and smell fresh dill!

    1. Thanks! I was inspired by my beautiful garden!

  4. I really enjoyed these limericks. I had pulled out a couple of my own this past week that I had written years ago and found while file cleaning. They do not quite meet the syllabic standard and are not as polished as yours but you’ve inspired me to work on them some more! Thanks!

    1. Hope your limericks are coming along! It’s fun to find forgotten treasures.

  5. These were fun Susan, I’m always welcome nonsense when it’s knocking at the door… Hope you enjoyed your visit too.

    1. Thanks, Michelle. I had a great visit with my family–although getting home turned out to be a bit of a challenge! (Think windstorm, 2 canceled flights and then the one that finally went was delayed for almost 5 hours because they had a plane but no crew)
