I made it–to Colorado!
Seeing the sky again–seeing wide open space! I arrived in Loveland yesterday. I moved into my lovely little apartment. The drive from Chicago was long (I did it in three days) but easy. For now, my apartment is mostly empty (and will be until April 1 when all my stuff arrives). I have a couple camping chairs, a camping mattress and my nice warm wool comforter. I also brought a few kitchen essentials–and of course, my blog/computer!
I’m feeling all sorts of things–excited to be here, sad to say good-bye to dear friends in Chicago, tired from packing and driving across the country, and getting used to the altitude. And I’m still thinking about my Blue Table–which seems to symbolize what I’ve left behind. But most of all, I’m enjoying the view. Here’s my before and after:
I’m still in a city–albeit a much smaller one. The street and cars are still in view–but I can see far. I can see clouds and mountains–and open space.
Poetry Friday–a poem about seeing the sky
This week, Rebecca Herzog of Sloth Reads hosts Poetry Friday and celebrates National Goof Off Day (who knew there was such a thing?) So goof off and read some poetry–is that goofing off?–at her blog. But I’m thinking about sky–so here’s a terse verse about my view:
To see the sky
unfettered,
not blocked
by buildings
and wires.
I didn’t
remember
how my soul
longed
to rest
In clouds
and blue,
in striped sunsets,
breezes, and
mountains–
Which had
bever been
part of
my landscape
for long.
Peace,
space to breathe,
seeing shapes
In clouds
like long ago,
How my soul
and my eyes
have longed–
have almost
forgotten
Short and sweet today
That’s all for today. I’m enjoying the quiet and the view.
I hope you are doing well. And happy Goof Off Day!
Thanks for stopping by!
xoxo
When you turn around and look east to the flat flat flat that takes you away from the mountains to Kansas, you are looking at the landscape (and sky) that pulls my heart to this day. I grew up in Burlington, CO. Coming home to me is all about that landscape (and that sky).
Wishing you all the happiness in the new phase of your adventure!
Thanks for your good wishes. I grew up where there were lots of hills, but no mountains (in Rock Island, IL)–I love the hilliness here and the mountains in the distance–the mountains still call to my eyes–but I’ve never been to Kansas! But the sky is amazing–and after years of living in a big city, I doubt I’ll ever grow tired of seeing mountains and sky.
How lovely! I hope your new home is filled with joy!
Thank you! I know it’s where I need to be right now.
What a lovely new view for your exciting new adventure! Your poem captures it well.
Thanks!
Hi Susan,
Glad you made it safely to your new home, it’s lovely. As I mentioned I lived in the mountains of Colorado for almost a year and always looked out of my window on them. I hope your view inspires your writing, I’m sure it will. Perhaps I’ll make it out there sometime. Cheers, xo 😉
Hi Michelle,
I hope you come to visit! The view certainly inspires calm–the rest remains to be seen.
