Happy Poetry Friday
Because we need a dream to refresh us from the busy-ness and harshness of life, here’s a lovely poem by ee cummings. It’s called You are tired (I think). Seems like everyone feels tired these days. Hopefully, this love poem will transport you and maybe take you to the land of dreams!
You Are Tired (I Think)
You are tired,
(I think)
Of the always puzzle of living and doing;
And so am I.
Come with me, then,
And we’ll leave it far and far away—
(Only you and I, understand!)
You have played,
(I think)
And broke the toys you were fondest of,
And are a little tired now;
Tired of things that break, and—
Just tired.
So am I.
But I come with a dream in my eyes tonight,
And knock with a rose at the hopeless gate of your heart—
Open to me!
For I will show you the places Nobody knows,
And, if you like,
The perfect places of Sleep.e.e. cummings
Ah, come with me!
I’ll blow you that wonderful bubble, the moon,
That floats forever and a day;
I’ll sing you the jacinth song
Of the probable stars;
I will attempt the unstartled steppes ofdream ,
Until I find the Only Flower,
Which shall keep (I think) your little heart
While the moon comes out of the sea.
Dream of poetry and friendship
I came across this poem because of my wonderful group of friends, all former colleagues from my teaching days–and truly amazing women. In order to keep in touch, we gather once a month to catch up on what’s happening in our lives. We also bring a poem to share written by a poet we chose the month before. We shared poems by Mary Oliver last month. Next month–Rumi! (this month, as you can see, our poet was ee cummings)
Dream of a host for Poetry Friday
Our host for Poetry Friday this week is A Journey Through the Pages (Thanks, Kay!). You can find out more about Poetry Friday at Kidlitosphere
As always, thanks for stopping by.
I’m still working on minimizing–check out my poem, Minimalist Rag(e)
Wishing you wonderful dreams to refresh and nourish you.
xoxo
The second ee cummings poem of the poetry friday day! Thanks for the refreshing read. (And I did not know that any of ee’s poems had capital letters!)
I looked at that poem in a couple different places because I was surprised to see all those capital letters–it seems like that’s how he wrote it. Thanks for your comment.
I’ve been dreaming along with that “wonderful bubble” this week. Thanks for this lovely inspiration for making life better.
What a welcome break from the tiresome news these days. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks–glad you liked it!
Lovely poem Susan, I especially liked the closing stanza and this line, ” wonderful bubble, the moon”
Sounds like a rich meeting of poetry you are having once a month too!
Thanks–glad you liked it. I love my poetry meeting!
So many of us just feel so tired these days, what a beautiful moment of escape, with a poem with dreams in his eyes. 🙂
Thanks! I’m glad it spoke to you.
