#IWSG April post–Rainy days are great for writing

Yes, it’s the first Wednesday of the month, and that means—
It’s time for an Insecure Writers Support Group (IWSG)  post
OPTIONAL IWSG Day Question:
When your writing life is a bit cloudy or filled with rain, what do you do to dig down and keep on writing?

It’s funny you should ask–although today when I woke up and looked out the window, there was snow on the ground! So I was happy to stay inside and write. But I do various things to keep myself going when my writing life–or the rest of my life–is a little drizzly. First of all, I stick with my routine–I journal first thing in the morning and then meditate, have breakfast (and feed the cat–that should go first if I want to concentrate on anything else) then I spend an hour or so writing or working on illustrations. And sometimes that’s all I do for my writing that day (and sometimes it’s just art, but at any rate, it’s my own creative work.)

And sometimes, I take a break from my routine. Last Saturday, I gave myself the whole day off (well, almost) and watched some shows and read some books and took a couple of naps. Then the next day, I felt refreshed and ready to get back to work.
But mostly what helps is the routine. When I left my job of 20 years, I knew I would need some kind of rhythm in my life. I also wanted to make time every day for my own work. And I’ve been working to find a good rhythm. This one (as described above) works pretty well. I’ve known for a long time that the fewer decisions I have to make in the morning, the better.  I also take a walk every afternoon–well, I used my rebounder today because I didn’t feel like walking in the cold and wind, although the snow was gone.
How do you keep yourself going?

Thanks for stopping by.

Hope there’s not too much more snow this spring. But I like the rainy days–they’re great for writing.

xoxo
