How to get rid of clothes moths–a household hint poem

How to get rid of clothes moths--a poem

They’re back!

I recently had another outbreak of clothes moths. Those things make me a little crazy. I have so much wool in my house–wool for spinning and felting, wool yarn for handwork, scarves, sweaters, blankets…..you get the idea.

Beware of moths in fleece clothing

A few years back, I bought some wool fleece on e-bay that came with clothes moths, although I didn’t realize it until they had eaten a bunch of stuff. I thought I’d finally gotten rid of them, but they seem to be most active in late summer/early fall–and I started seeing just a couple flying around my house. I knew that meant more moths had taken up residence in my closets.

Since the first time, I store a lot of my wool in plastic bags and boxes. But I had gotten a little careless–because I thought they were gone–and left a few things in my closet unprotected. Ugh! Not only did they eat a couple of my favorite scarves, but their poo–or whatever causes the dust–makes me cough and feel yucky.

Poetry Friday is here again!

But I suppose at least they inspired me to write a poem with both rhymes and some actual things you can do to get rid of moths. Please don’t use mothballs in your house–those things are toxic to people and animals and they smell horrible, too. You can hire a professional if you can’t (or don’t want to) get rid of them on your own.

The End (hopefully)

I hope I’ve gotten rid of them finally. New turquoise-colored soft storage boxes now contain everything wool that I’m not wearing. I guess I’ll find out if I next August if poetry kills clothes moths.

Anyhow, thanks for stopping by.

Have a great weekend.

  1. That’s cool that you are a knitter etc…I can only imagine your panic when you realized you had those moths! (This could have some funny illustrations if you were to illustrate it!)

    1. It might be fun to illustrate it–I seem to like drawing bugs!

  2. I hope this poem scares away some of those moths Susan…

    1. Thanks–Me, too! I think I’ve got them under control–but time will tell, I guess.
