Wondra's Alphabet Adventure
What if learning the alphabet began not with A, B, C—but with a story?
Mother Earth has created a beautiful place to live, but she longs for star children to come and share it with her.
And so begins Wondra's journey.
In these richly imaginative stories, Wondra and his friends—Blue the Bear, Gloria the Gnome, Thunderpaws the Cat, and many others—wander through Mother Earth's world, meeting dream dragons, King Winter, Mother Holle, Uncle Unicorn, and all sorts of unexpected friends along the way.
Each story grows from a letter of the alphabet, with language and sound becoming part of the play. But the letters don't arrive in alphabetical order. Instead, the stories meander through the seasons, following the rhythms of nature from one adventure to the next.
These stories began in my Waldorf classroom.
In Waldorf education, children traditionally meet the letters through stories and images rather than memorizing them in alphabetical order. I originally created Wondra's stories and illustrations for the children I taught. Each week we entered a new story together, drew pictures, formed letters with our bodies, and eventually added them to our own letter books.
What began as a way of teaching became a world of its own.
Wondra's Alphabet Adventure brings those stories together for children, families, teachers—and anyone who still believes that learning can begin with imagination, play, and wonder.
Come wander from A to Z, listen for the song of the stars, and see where the letters lead you. The path won't be straight—but that's part of the adventure.
