Water Lily–#AtoZChallenge

Who can resist a water lily?  Not me!  Not Claude Monet and not Buddhists, for whom it symbolizes:

In Buddhist symbolism the lotus is symbolic of purity of the body, speech, and mind as while rooted in the mud, its flowers blossom on long stalks as if floating above the muddy waters of attachment and desire. It is also symbolic of detachment as drops of water easily slide off its petals.  (from Wikipedia)

It apparently has other meanings in other cultures and is the national flower of Bangladesh.  Other meanings include love and life (Bangladesh), national unity (ancient Egypt), resurrection, purity, grace, chastity and estranged love.
I love to go to the Chicago Botanic Garden and look at the water lilies.  I also love to go to the Art Institute of Chicago and look at Monet’s paintings of water lilies (and all his other paintings, too).
I didn’t have much time to work on this particular illustration, as I had meeting to go to this evening.  But here it is, anyhow.  Because it looks ok and because I’ve come this far with the A to Z challenge, so I’m not going to stop now!
