Life is full of surprises–#IWSG post for September

These are some of the new symbols for my classroom. They have nothing to do with this post, but I thought I’d share them anyhow.

This has been a very long day, from being at school at 8 to getting home from the dentist at 7:30 PM with an open house/playdate for the families in my class and another meeting in between. So this post will be pretty brief. Oh, and tomorrow is the first day of school and the first day I’ve needed to be out of the house by 7AM since school ended in June.

Self-portrait after a looooooooong day!

But, it’s also the first Wednesday in September, and it’s time for another Insecure Writers’ Group post.

The (optional) prompt, which I will be using since my brain is mush right now is:

Question: Have you ever surprised yourself with your writing?

The first time I surprised myself was when I wrote my first novel–Beyond the Land of Dreams. I didn’t think I could write a novel, never understood how anyone could do such a thing, although I knew many people did. But the idea for the story kept hounding me until I finally decided I had better write it down. I used Victoria Lynn Schmidt’s BOOK IN A MONTH as my guide and actually did it. Of course, it’s very different now than it was when I first wrote it, but when I finished that first draft–in a month–it was an entire story with a beginning, middle and end.

Still working on getting it published!

But not tonight. I’m calling it a day.

Thanks for stopping by.

I am a writer, handworker, artist and teacher (a WHAT!), and a mom of two beautiful daughters who are amazingly 17 and 21. I am working on getting my first book, a fantasy novel for young people, published and am busy spinning on my new spinning wheel. I have been a Waldorf early childhood teacher for 10 years now, and before that, I was a lawyer. Teaching is much more fun.
