Wax covered wooden eggs

I wanted to do a project to honor spring, which has finally arrived–also Passover and Easter are coming up very soon.  Eggs, that age old symbol of the renewal of life, of new beginnings.  In the past, we have made marblizeded eggs, following instructions from Martha Stewart.

It was a fun and beautiful project, but it always happened that someone dropped their (hard boiled) egg and gets upset, so I thought I would try using wooden eggs this year.

So, this is the projects I am doing with my parent-child classes this week–we are decorating wooden eggs with Stockmar candle decorating beeswax.  This egg has, however, been somewhat redecorated since I did it.  If I get a chance, I’ll post a photo–a couple of the children added some more wax.  My treasure box and one window have also, so far, gotten some lovely wax decorations.  The children are having a good time with this, and the parents, too.

I also bought some wax stamps to make some shapes and stamped out a whole bunch of them for my families.

I am a writer, handworker, artist and teacher (a WHAT!), and a mom of two beautiful daughters who are amazingly 17 and 21. I am working on getting my first book, a fantasy novel for young people, published and am busy spinning on my new spinning wheel. I have been a Waldorf early childhood teacher for 10 years now, and before that, I was a lawyer. Teaching is much more fun.
