Yarn pumpkins, just in time for Halloween

My dear friend, Christine, made these cute yarn pumpkins for my classroom, and I decided to make them with my families.  They were simple and cute.  We both got our yarn from Sifu, a lovely yarn shop not too far from school.  The idea came from The Magic Onions.  I made little balls of yard for everyone and collected some sticks from the neighborhood.   I kept some smaller pieces of orange yarn for tying.

Also, to make them extra special, I gathered all the green bits of wool from my school wool collection and carded them and spun a thick and thin single to use to make vines/leaves to tie at the top.

We wrapped the yarn around four fingers until it was all used up, tied it with the short piece of yarn, stuck the stick stem in so it stuck and then tied the green yarn around the top and voila! A pumpkin!

I am a writer, handworker, artist and teacher (a WHAT!), and a mom of two beautiful daughters who are amazingly 17 and 21. I am working on getting my first book, a fantasy novel for young people, published and am busy spinning on my new spinning wheel. I have been a Waldorf early childhood teacher for 10 years now, and before that, I was a lawyer. Teaching is much more fun.
